WEEKLY BULLETIN
PRINCIPAL’S CORNER
There are several events coming up.  I would like to briefly talk about each one:
The Macy’s Charity Day event is Wednesday.  Please order your tickets and return to school by Tuesday morning.  Tickets will be available directly from the school office on Tuesday afternoon.  All tickets will be sent home Tuesday afternoon.  Four volunteers are needed to work the event at Macy’s Lakeside from 3:30-5:30 p.m.  If you can help please fill out the attachment to this bulletin.
Middle School students, under the direction of Mrs. Karin Gerace produced an awesome video for a contest sponsored by eInstruction.  The winning school receives an Interactive Classroom Makeover. Please visit the school website (www.stangelaschool.org) and click on the link on the home page to register with eInstruction and rate and vote for the St. Angela video.  I know that you will enjoy watching the video.  Congratulations to Mrs. Gerace, Mrs. Hurd and all of the students who participated.  You did an awesome job!!
The Beta Club Halloween Party is Friday night for students in grades 5, 6 & 7 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.  The events planned for this evening promise to make it an enjoyable evening for this age group. 
Trunk or Treat is scheduled for Halloween night.  Volunteers will receive further information on Wednesday.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are Thursday by appointment. See bulletin for more details.

Congratulations to our Senior Girls’ Volleyball team for winning the Conference Championship last week!  Team members include:   Bailey Berrigan, Julia Delesdernier, Haley Grieshaber, Isabella LeBlanc, Kayla Meyers, Sophie Miller, Lauren Saunée Alexa Songy and Tess Waldvogel.            Coach Joey Davenport, Great job!!

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held this Thursday,  October 23rd.   You will receive a confirmation of your time from Mrs. Gandolini prior to Thursday.  Please call Mrs. Gandolini at 835-8491 ext. 102 for any questions.

LUNCH SURVEY
Please see the lunch survey being sent home in this bulletin packet. 

TRUNK OR TREAT
The 4th annual “Trunk or Treat” Night will be held in the St. Angela Merici School yard on Halloween night from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m.  To supplement the candy that the parents who have stations bring, candy donations are requested for this event.  Candy donations will be collected this Friday, 24th and 31st.   Tennis shoe passes will be given for the donations.  

HALLOWEEN COSTUME PARTY – GRADES 5-7
Jr. Beta Club is sponsoring a Halloween Costume Party on Friday, October 24th from 7-9 p.m. in the gym.  Admission is $5.00.  No advance ticket sales.

ASC CLOSING EARLY ON HALLOWEEN
After School Care will close at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31st to allow for set up of the cars for Trunk or Treat.  Gates will be locked at 4:00.  Enter through the pedestrian gates.

MAD SCIENCE CLUB
There will be no meeting this Thursday, October 23rd due to Parent/Teacher Conferences.

SAMA NEWS
SAMA meeting tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. October 21st in the Kern Center will feature Ms. Dawn Brown from WWL-TV.   Topics will include Hurricanes Gustav and Ike.  As always, food will be prepared by the "Kitchen Crew."  Please come to what is always a fun meeting.

CO-OP NEWS/SALLY FOSTER ORDER
Please double check your Sally Foster boxes received to make sure your child’s name is on it.  If you have a box with another student’s name on it, please return it to school.     

FAMILIA
FAMILIA is a prayer and study group for mothers of young and school age children.  We meet twice a month during the school year on Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. in the Conference Room.  Our first meeting will be Wednesday, October 29th.  For more information, please contact Allison Drez (838-9411) or Debbie Galloway (828-2324).

SPORTS NEWS
Girls Volleyball
Practices will be this week as follows:
Monday – 3:30-5:30
Tuesday – Sr. 7:30-8:00 a.m.
Wednesday – Jr. 7:30-8:00 a.m.
Thursday – Sr. 7:30-8:00 a.m.
City Playoffs begin this week.  The schedule is:
Jr. play Wednesday, October 22nd – 4:00 @ St. Catherine
Sr. play Thursday, October 23rd – 4:50 @ St. Philip
This is a single elimination tournament.  
The championship games are scheduled for Wednesday, October 29th at St. Clement at 4:00 Jr./4:50 Sr.
Boys Basketball 
Practices will be this week as follows:
Jr. practice after school until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday
Sr. practice after school until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

CROSS COUNTRY NEWS - GRADES 4-7
Congratulations to all the runners that participated in the Academy of Our Lady Meet on Saturday.  Our girls 6th grade division placed 1st  and our 8th grade division placed 3rd.  Top 5 girl runners: Anne Buchert, Samantha Staehle, Lauren Saunee, Abby Trahant and Allison Dowty.  Our boys team placed 4th in the 8th grade division:  Top 5 boy runners:  Kevin Broadbridge, Jason Crumb, Glenn Lorio, Kyle Lockart, and Wesley Franatovich.  Practice Tuesday at SAM-bring weights, Dominican/Jesuit Invitational Wednesday at City park, be there by 3:40. 1st race starts 4pm.  Off Thursday and Friday.  Meet Saturday TBA.  Please remember to check your email.

END OF 9-WEEKS AR DRESS DOWN DAY
This Friday, October 24th is the end of 9-weeks AR dress down day.  Students who qualified should have been given passes by their homeroom/Reading teachers.

MACY’S PREVIEW SHOPPING DAY/CHARITY BENEFIT
Macy’s at the Esplanade and Lakeside Mall are celebrating the upcoming Openings with a Preview Shopping Day and Charity Benefit to be held on Wednesday, October 22nd.  Tickets for the event are $5.00 each.  This ticket will provide admission to this event and will also be a 25% discount card for all purchases made on that day.  All proceeds collected (the entire $5.00) will go to St. Angela Merici School, if the tickets are bought through school.  Tickets are available through the school office until Tuesday.  See the attachment in the bulletin for details. 

AR NEWS
The following students have passed their first AR quiz for the 2008-09 school year:     Collin Blackwell, Shelby Brooks, Rex Carroll, Owen Catalanotto, Wyatt Heitmeier, Brianne Morgan, Christian Patin, Kahlé Perret, Kristine Rutledge, Elise Ryon and Alexis Schmidt.

CHOIR NEWS
Practice will be held this Wednesday, October 22nd from 3:30-4:30.  

BAND NEWS
Band reports- Band and precorder members have received their 1st quarter band reports. Parents are asked to sign and return.
Christmas Concert and Saturday practices- Our combined school Christmas Concert will be at St. Christopher gym, 7:00pm on Thursday, December 11. Practices for this performance will be at St. Christopher in the music room on Saturday, November 8 and December 6 from 10:00am until 1:30pm. Look for additional details on the band reports.
Correction- The intermediate students' band reports "mistakenly" listed the concert as being on a Monday night. This is incorrect. The concert is on a Thursday.

ATTENTION TROOP 848
Anyone interested in doing the maize in the month of November, please call Ms. Cheryl at 834-1667.  Details to follow.

WINE AND CHEESE SOCIAL FOR MARRIED COUPLES   (rescheduled due to Gustav)
Mark your calendars for the Wine and Cheese Social for Married Couples, which has been rescheduled for Friday, October 24th at 7:30 p.m. in the Conference Room. We are delighted to have as our guest speaker, Deacon Gil Schmidt, who will enlighten and enrich us about married life.  Please come join us for a night of fun and fellowship.   Please call the rectory at 835-0324 to reserve your seats on or before October 21st.  For more information, call Janice Wolff at 831-1025 or Kay Dornier at 834-4689.
