October Cub Scout Theme: “Adventures in Books”
What great adventures come in books? Let's discover some this month. Visit the library and learn to navigate your way through the "card catalog computer," down the aisles of many adventures, and to an adventure of your own choice. Sign up for your library card while on your visit. Create your own outdoor epic adventure on a hike, campout, or maybe at a ball field or park. Make a costume for one of the characters from your favorite story. At the pack meeting the boys can perform some of their favorite stories and share some of their adventures with the pack. Take part in Pedro's "Say Yes to Reading" program in Boy's Life. This might also be a good month to work on the Communicating or Computers belt loop and pin. Encourage the boys to have the courage to search for, discover, and share adventure this month.
New Web Site!
Thanks to Paul Jackson for creating and hosting Pack 30’s first dedicated web site, Please visit and sign up to access expanded features such as viewing photos and information, and downloading forms. Paul has already posted the September Newsletter and the Percy Quin Campout Registration Form, in addition to some photos and other useful information.
This is a quality website and a superior effort in volunteerism!
Percy Quin Oct 10-12
Many have eagerly anticipated our return to Percy Quin! We will be planning for lots of fun in the woods, including smores around the campfire, a Pack Meeting, cooking, hiking, and tent trick-or-treating on Saturday night. A list of what to bring is included with this Newsletter, along with directions.
I encourage everyone to plan for decorating their vehicle or tent site on Saturday night. Last year everyone had a great time trick or treating and checking out all the really cool decorations. There are now battery-powered lights you can string up for your displays! And don’t forget the candy!
Meridian Amtrak Trip
We didn’t have many folks from our Pack sign up for this, but Lynda Deblanc’s Pack will be bringing over 60 people (what do they know that we don’t?)! Now we are past deadline for a group ticket rate. But there is still time to get tickets on your own. If you are interested, you can check out the Meridian attachment with this Email or you can call me and I will tell you what fun you can have there. I went last year and am returning this year. I already have my family’s tickets!
Pack Dues are DUE!
If you have not yet sent in your Pack dues, please do so now. The yearly Pack dues amount is $80 and includes registration in the Council, insurance and a year’s subscription to Boy’s Life. Please send (checks only please, no cash) to the school office - “Cub Scout Box”, attention: Rhonda”. Your Pack dues cover your Scout for most activities during the year (entry fees, awards, food at campouts, etc.). The funds raised by our Pancake Breakfast will affect the number of activities we can do and costs we can cover.
Den dues are collected separately by each Den leader and cover Den activities only.
New Scouts!
Everyone please welcome Jane Eiermann and her 8 new Tiger Cubs to our Pack! We also have 2 new Wolves and 1 new Bear this year. They will be formally introduced at our Percy Quin Campout, so say hello and make them feel part of the Pack!
Parent’s Meeting
Parent’s Meetings are a great way to find out what’s going on in the Pack and to provide insight and communication (get your voice heard!). We need AT LEAST ONE parent from each den to attend - the more parents that attend, the better the meeting.
Our next Parent’s Meeting will primarily focus on planning and preparations for Percy Quin and the November Pancake Breakfast. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend these planning and informational meetings.
Next Parents Meeting: October 2nd, 7:30 pm
Annex Board Room
Achievements
Den Leaders/Den Achievement Coordinators: Get your list of achievements earned over the summer (by Scout) and purchase at the Scout Shop, by the first week of October. We would like to give out awards at the October Percy Quin Pack Meeting. Remember, you will be held to your budget set forth at our first Parent’s Meeting!
Den Leaders
In order to Re-Charter our Pack in December, I will need the physical addresses, Email addresses and phone numbers of all of your Den parents. I have sent you an Excel template so that you can provide this to me in a uniform format. Please get this info back to me in November, as soon as your Den is settled.
