PC Computer, Internet and Email Basics

PC - Stands for Personal Computer.
PC began in 1981 by IBM.
- Many standards have been created.
- Many different companies build PC's: Dell, HP (Hewliet Packard), Gateway, Lenovo (IBM), etc.
- Uses a Windows based OS (operating system)
Mac (Macintosh) began in 1984 by Apple
- Apple is only company to make, sell and support Macintosh Personal Computers.
- Apple has control over everything- hardware and operating system.
- Uses a Mac OS (operating system)
Throughout the remainder of this PC Basic guide we will be referring to a PC originating from the IBM frame.
Types of PC's:
- Laptop/notebook - Portable
- PDA-(Personal Digital Assistant)
What is a PC used for? A PC has four functions:
- Processing - Processes data
- Storage - Stores the results
