CROSS COUNTRY
Coach: Theresa Buchert
Cross-country running is a sport in which teams of runners compete to complete a course over open or rough terrain faster than other teams.
Team:
4th -7th grade girls team and boys team. There is no limit to the amount of runners on a team.
Courses and distances:
1.5 miles or 2 miles depending on course.
Scoring:
Cross country running is scored on a team basis. Points are awarded to individual runners equal to the position in which they cross the finish line (first place gets 1 point, second place gets 2 points, etc). Only the first five on each team are counted towards that team's score. The remaining runners on each team are sometimes called "pushers" or "displacers," because while they do not earn points for their team, they sometimes push up the point score of each opponent after them.
Equipment:
Cross-country running involves very little specialist equipment. A good pair of running shoes, comfortable running shorts and t-shirt is all that is required. (Team T-shirts provided)
Cross Country Meets:
Meets are usually held on Saturday morning beginning at times ranging from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Meets usually last under 1.5 hours.
Cross Country Season:
Practice usually begins in late August-Early September and lasts until the first week of November.
Registration and Fees:
$15 per runner - includes T-Shirt.
