St. Angela Merici Catholic School has participated in the Youth St. Vincent de Paul Society for over 4 years. The St. Vincent de Paul Society and Brown Foundation recognized the loving spirit and dedication of our students and awarded us with two Brown Foundation Grants totaling nearly $3,000. This generous grant will help St. Angela continue the legacy of service to others.
The seventh graders’ service project includes making a budget, visiting the Rebuild Center and St. Jude Community Center, and making over 160 breakfast sandwiches weekly for those less fortunate. The students also make Blessing Bags to pass out to the homeless.
The sixth graders are focusing on a literacy partnership with The Good Shepherd Catholic School. Through this service project, our students will become writing and reading buddies with first graders at The Good Shepherd Catholic School. St. Angela Merici students will give paperback books to their buddies and remain pen pals throughout the school year. The culmination of this literacy and service partnership is the personalized book each sixth grader will write and give to their new friend.
SVDP Youth also participate in other service projects throughout the year, such as making Rosaries, working at Edible Garden NOLA and Second Harvest Food Bank, and collecting coats for the Rebuild Center.
