A Lenten Journey in First Grade

Ms. Candice’s Class is working hard to grow closer to Jesus this Lent. Students discussed as a class how they could incorporate fasting, prayer, and almsgiving into their lives in a special way. The class chose to “fast” from the words “I can’t,” and to always try hard. To increase their prayer life they decided to say one decade of the Rosary each morning. Students also began a class prayer basket to acknowledge anyone who needs prayers. By the end of each week students have learned about and prayed one Mystery of the Rosary, and by the end of Lent students will have prayed all Mysteries of the Rosary. To incorporate almsgiving our students decided to give kind words to one another and help all those in need.
This Lent experience gives students a valuable lesson in being the hands and feet of Jesus.
At St. Angela Merici we are so proud of our first graders.
